the issue of casino has been like the talk of the town for the past dunnoe how long.... tv channels opened up for live debates, call-ins, newspaper forum etc etc... showing the world (or rather our tiny country) that our reigning dynasty is open to suggestion and opinions.... it was afterall just tat, a show....
i'm generally pro-govt... but am violently against this idea of casino... of cos i wasn't naive to believe tat they will actually listen cos they have obviously decided b4 they open up a time of debate... but my qns is, why go thru all these just to give everyone a major letdown? why bother to hear when they ain't gonna listen?
now not only they are going to build a casino, they are going to have TWO!!! yes, i know there'll be 10,000 job opportunities... but issit worth the highly probable social vices? with gambling, prostitution usually follows like a siamese twin.... people who lost $$ would resort to selling anything (including their bodies)... those who won, wanna have a cheap thrill in celebration... not to mention the boost for the loansharks industry... if they have a stock option, i'm sure tomolo their stocks will double....
according to their "statistics", 50% of singaporean gambles... but wat sorta gambling? mahjong during CNY? 4D for the yearly million dollar draw? or soccer bets during EPL? these are of different level of gambling than tat of a casino. sure they can travel to genting or elsewhere to gamble... but it's a different story when there's one right at their doorstep.... it's like lifting the ban on minor smokers cos there are many social smokers... when they grow up, they can still smoke??!! *roll eyes*
